The United States has not yet issued visas to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other members of the delegation to participate in the UN Security Council. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov.

“So far, not a single visa has been issued,” he stressed (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Answering a question about Lavrov’s possible meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in New York, Ryabkov said that it was too early to talk about this until the “technical issue” with visas was resolved.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that in April Russia will begin its chairmanship in the UN Security Council. In particular, on April 25, Lavrov will chair an open ministerial-level debate in the UN Security Council on resolving the situation in the Middle East.

Russian diplomats began to be denied visas against the backdrop of the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and sanctions against the Russian Federation, which, among other things, affected Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. September 2022 USA not issued visas for several members of the Russian delegation to participate in the UN General Assembly. In March 2023 Washington refused in visas to Russian diplomats who were supposed to participate in the session of the UN open-ended working group on cybersecurity.
