Ryabkov: Arms talks possible after West abandons anti-Russian policy

According to Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, negotiations on arms issues with the West will become possible only after the West abandons its anti-Russian policy. At present, such a waiver is unrealistic. Ryabkov noted that reaching agreements in this area is difficult both because of the general high level of confrontation and because of the serious undermining of the “collective West”‘s ability to negotiate by its previous actions.
He emphasized that the discussion of a new conventional arms control system would be possible only after the end of the current period of tension in European history and in the event that the West abandons its hostile anti-Russian policy. The statement was made by Ryabkov at the Conference of States Parties to the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, which was held on Thursday.
