Russia does not intend to “shoot itself in the foot” on the issue of possible restrictions on the export of rare earth metals and nuclear fuel to the United States, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, Moscow has every reason to take such a step. At the same time, Ryabkov called for a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
“We should not shoot ourselves in the foot and cause economic damage to ourselves,” he said.
According to the diplomat, a certain balance has now emerged, and Moscow has other ways of influencing the United States, “including asymmetrical ones.”
Earlier, Ryabkov, in a conversation with reporters, expressed his opinion under what conditions Washington and Moscow could sever diplomatic relations. According to the diplomat, the state of relations between the United States and Russia has deteriorated so much that their rupture seems quite real. At the same time, Ryabkov emphasized that the Russian Federation does not plan to initiate such a decision. “If this happens, it will happen as a result of Washington’s decisions and actions,” said the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.
