Russia’s permanent representative assessed the impact of Western sanctions on domestic industry

The sanctions of the collective West have become an incentive for the development of Russian industry, including aircraft manufacturing, where Russia is actively developing and implementing its own technologies, said Mikhail Ulyanov, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna.

“Western sanctions serve as a powerful incentive for the rapid development of many segments of Russian industry, including the aviation industry, which will be based on Russian-made components. By 2030, Russia will produce more than 140 short-haul aircraft based on its own technologies,” – wrote he is on his Telegram channel.

On September 2, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the second flight of the imported SJ-100 was successfully completed under the factory development test program, during which the crew, in particular, retracted the landing gear and tested the air brakes, the press service of the United Aircraft Corporation reported (UAC).

SJ-100 is a new, import-substituted version of the short-haul SSJ100, consisting of 70% foreign components. As Vedomosti wrote, the development of this aircraft will cost 120–130 billion rubles. This amount also includes the creation of the Russian PD-8 engine.

In addition, Russia is developing a number of other civil aircraft, in particular the MS-21 and Tu-214. Serial production of the first is planned to start in 2024; it is being created as a replacement for the Tu-154 and Tu-204/214 airliners, as well as as an alternative to foreign-made aircraft Airbus A320, Boeing 737. Its flight range is more than 6,000 km.
