Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country’s federal budget deficit by the end of 2023 may be below 1.5% of GDP. Now the figure is less than 2% of GDP.
“Minister of Finance (Anton Siluanov.— “Ъ”) I told you this morning, I reported: our deficit is even less than the 2% that we talked about earlier. And they said that this would be a good result – a 2% deficit. It turns out that it will most likely be less. It will even be less than 1.5%,” Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the State Council (quoted from website Kremlin).
In July, Anton Siluanov said that Russia’s budget deficit by the end of 2023 could amount to 2–2.5% of GDP. However, at the end of November, the Minister of Finance admittedthat by the end of the year the figure will be at the level of 1% of GDP. According to the current budget law, a deficit of 2.9 trillion rubles is planned for 2023. (2% of GDP).
