The Russian tanker “Primorye”, carrying oil products, parked on August 19 without the permission of the authorities in the territory of the exclusive economic zone of Malaysia, but outside its territorial waters. For this reason, the Malaysian Maritime Law Enforcement Agency arrested the vessel on 21 August. This is stated on the portal for maritime transport “Marine Bulletin”.
According to the site, the tanker anchored in “Awaiting Orders” status 24 miles off the state of Johor in southern Malaysia.
“The tanker was at anchor among the many merchant ships also waiting in the area for new shipping orders. According to the Malaysian side, the rest of the vessels had Malaysian permissions to anchor in this area, ”said Mikhail Voitenko, editor-in-chief of the Maritime Bulletin and an expert on global shipping (quoted from “RIA News”).
According to Mr. Voitenko, there were 21 Russians on the ship, including two women.
The editor-in-chief of the portal called the arrest of the tanker “routine”, since Malaysia arrests all ships that anchored in this area of the Singapore Strait.
