Russian Su-27s prevented airspace violation by British Typhoon fighters and a radio reconnaissance aircraft in the Black Sea. The Ministry of Defense reports this.
The incident occurred on October 19. Russian airspace control systems detected three air targets approaching the border.
“A pair of Su-27 fighters from the air defense forces on duty were scrambled into the air,” the statement said.
Two Typhoon multirole fighters and an RC-135 electronic reconnaissance aircraft approached the border. They made a U-turn not far from the border; no violation was committed. The Ministry of Defense indicated that they acted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace without dangerous proximity.
