On October 24, Russian airspace control systems detected an unidentified air target over the Black Sea, and a Su-27 fighter was scrambled to identify it. reported Telegram channel of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The pilots identified the target as a reconnaissance UAV RQ-4B Global Hawk of the US Air Force; when the Su-27 approached, the drone made a turn and flew in the opposite direction.

“The Russian plane returned safely to its home airfield; there was no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation,” the message says.

The flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules and safety standards, the Ministry of Defense added.

Earlier today the Ministry of Defense reported also about the approach of US Air Force B-1B bombers to the state border. The last time the Su-27 took off due to approaching the border over the Black Sea was RQ-4B Global Howk on October 15. On October 6, the Russian Armed Forces scrambled a MiG-31 fighter due to a US Navy aircraft approaching the state border over the Norwegian Sea.
