Restaurants in Russia are faced with a shortage of chicken meat. RIA Novosti reported its shortage at Rostic`s and KFC. The head of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia (FRiO) Igor Bukharov confirmed the existence of a problem. The Ministry of Agriculture noted that enterprises primarily satisfy the needs of the population by supplying chicken to retail chains.
“Now on the Russian market, all consumers of chicken meat are faced with a difficult situation, including its shortage, and we are no exception,” said the press service of Unirest (Rostic`s and KFC).
The President of FRiO said that the shortage is due to several factors, including a lack of personnel at poultry farms. “We have problems with chicken meat… There are not enough personnel at poultry farms, there is a disruption in supply chains, an increase in the cost of feed and costs,” said Igor Bukharov.
According to the head of FRiO, chicken meat is mainly supplied to restaurants by Russian producers. At the same time, he assured that “the problem should be resolved soon.” “When there is a deficit, it is replenished after some time,” said the head of the FRiO.
The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture told TASS that “the consumer market is fully supplied with poultry meat.” The department said that “in conditions of continued demand,” enterprises are increasing production of poultry meat. “At the same time, according to the National Union of Poultry Farmers, the priority is to meet the needs of the population for socially significant products, including through retail chains,” the department added.
In August, Russian restaurateurs complained to rising prices for chicken and pork. According to experts, price increases among Russian restaurant suppliers from March to July amounted to 20–30%. After this FAS started checking reasonableness of prices from the three largest chicken producers: PJSC Cherkizovo, GAP Resurs and JSC Prioskolye.
