Russian Post will stop accepting letters and parcels without presenting a passport

From September 1, Russian Post will change the procedure for sending registered letters, parcels and parcels. As reported on site companies, now the sender will be required to present a passport when placing an order.

“From September 1, 2023, the conditions for accepting registered items will change. The sender must provide the postal employee with an identity document, ”the Russian Post notes. At the same time, the company’s customers are also invited to connect the Simple Electronic Signature service in order to “pay for shipments online and deliver them without documents.” Now a registered letter with a track number, a registered parcel or a parcel can be sent without presenting identification documents.

Portal IGuides clarifies that if a citizen wants to send a registered letter or a parcel on behalf of another person, he will be obliged, in addition to his passport, to provide the postal operator with a duly certified power of attorney. In turn, the employee of the Russian Post branch, who receives the shipment, must fix the document, that is, inspect it and enter the data into the database where they will be stored. Information about this is contained in notifications sent to the company’s branches; there is no such data on the Russian Post website.
