Russian peacekeepers have closed their observation post in the Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The decision is related to the disarmament and movement of guard posts further from the contact line, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports.
“No ceasefire violations have been recorded in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. “Within 24 hours, in connection with disarmament and the withdrawal of guard posts from the contact line of the parties, one observation post in the Askeran region was closed,” the ministry noted (quote according to TASS).
Russian peacekeepers also accompanied a joint group of Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh during the restoration of the gas supply system in the Shusha region.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, by September 7, the armed formations of Nagorno-Karabakh surrendered 112 units of artillery pieces, mortars and multiple launch rocket systems, 124 air defense equipment, 92 armored vehicles, 142 military vehicles, about 66.1 million ammunition and one drone.
Earlier, the defense department reported that Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh had closed temporary observation posts along the former line of contact.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures.” The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. On September 28, the president of the unrecognized republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024 and the dissolution of all government institutions and organizations.
On October 5, the press service of the Council of the European Union reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a meeting in Granada, Spain, signed a declaration recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan.
