Russian parliamentarians called on American parliamentarians to refuse support for Ukraine

The State Duma on Thursday adopted an appeal to the US Congress calling on it to condemn the actions of Ukraine, withdraw its support and help bring to justice those responsible for the Il-76 crash near Belgorod. Some deputies expressed doubts about the effectiveness of such statements, but the chairman of the international committee, Leonid Slutsky, assured his colleagues that the West is increasingly listening to Russian parliamentarians.

The deputies appealed to Congress “in connection with data confirmed by the competent authorities about the commission of a terrorist act by Ukraine,” as a result of which on January 24 over the territory of the Belgorod region was shot down Il-76 aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Armed Forces. On board were 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, who were planned to be exchanged for Russian military personnel, as well as six crew members and three accompanying persons. They all died. Ukrainian authorities did not confirm or deny the strike on the plane, but said they were not “informed about the routes and forms of delivery of prisoners.”

“The plane was destroyed by Ukrainian military units from the area of Liptsy, Kharkov region, using an American-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system. The attack on the plane was a deliberate and deliberate murder, since the exchange of prisoners between the Russian Federation and Ukraine was agreed upon, including the route for their delivery,” the appeal says. Deputies called on members of Congress, representing “the American people, and not corrupt bureaucrats and lobbyists of the military-industrial complex,” to “condemn the crimes of the terrorist Kiev regime, refuse its support and help bring to justice the direct perpetrators of the inhumane terrorist act.”

“The majority of your voters are in favor of resuming a normal dialogue with the Russian Federation,” head of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky (LDPR) addressed the congressmen. “Europe is already seeing the light. Today, other countries are preparing to support the position of Hungary, Slovakia, and the Netherlands to end the Nazi puppet regime in Kyiv.” In his opinion, there are “fewer and fewer of Russia’s worst enemies” on the European continent.

Chairman of the Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov (United Russia), in turn, noted that “the destruction of an aircraft or transport plane has never been good for any of the military” and “even the Fuhrer never thought of killing Wehrmacht soldiers in Soviet captivity.”

The deputies agreed with the need for such an appeal, but suggested adjusting the text. “It says here that there is no need to list cases when the US authorities provided Ukraine with weapons to carry out selective attacks on civilians. Maybe it’s still worth listing them?” – suggested Nikolai Brykin (ER). Leonid Slutsky assured him that “no one is forgotten” and in all cases, appeals are sent through the Russian Embassy to both houses of Congress. But if we now list all these cases, of which there are about 150, this will “psychologically complicate the perception of the text,” explained the head of the committee.

Evgeny Popov (United Russia) asked what result the authors were counting on: “We are actually turning to the organizers of this monstrous crime, it is they who approved the supply of weapons, sanctions against us, it is they who demand the destruction of Russia. There are no sane forces there to talk to. Is it possible that we are asking the cannibal not to eat children?”

Mr. Slutsky did not agree with this: “A year ago, you and I could not imagine that as a result of our appeals, the countries of the European Union would step aside from supporting the Kyiv regime.”

He recalled the recent statement of the Duma in connection with the initiative to dismantle the monument to the Soviet soldier “Alyosha” in Bulgaria, after which “only two rabid deputies of the Plovdiv municipal council” voted for the demolition of the monument. “The State Duma is increasingly heard, our voice is heard today in the parliaments of the world, our appeals are read, quoted, published,” the liberal democrat said enthusiastically. According to him, there are sensible forces in the West, but there are “not 100%” of “cannibals” in the chambers of Congress. “We don’t ask the cannibals for anything, we talk to them in the rough language of a revolver,” supported colleague Andrei Kartapolov. “In this appeal, we warn them about where they will come, continuing to support the Kyiv regime.”

Finally, Sholban Kara-ool (ER) proposed changing the title of the appeal, emphasizing that the downed plane was transporting Ukrainian prisoners of war and was not performing a combat mission. He was supported by speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, proposing his own formulation: “an airplane carrying out a humanitarian action.” The deputies greeted this idea with applause and adopted the appeal with 405 votes, with no votes against or abstentions.
