Employees of the State Historical Museum (SHM) are part of the inter-museum working group, which since the spring of 2022 has been collecting monuments in the territory of Donbass and in the zone of special military operation (SVO), director of the State Historical Museum Alexei Levykin said in an exclusive interview with Kommersant.
“If we talk about covering the events of a special military operation, an inter-museum working group has been working since the spring of 2022, which is collecting monuments,” said Mr. Levykin. “Employees of the State Historical Museum also work in the Donbass as part of this group. Such work is traditional for the museum: during the First World War, the museum had a department that was also involved in the collection of items related to events at the front; military materials were also collected during the Great Patriotic War. Thanks to this, unique memorial collections have been formed.”
Mr Levykin also toldthat attendance at the museum complex is recovering after the pandemic. The share of foreign tourists in 2022 decreased from 25% to 1.5% amid the military operation and rose to 2.6% in the first half of 2023.
