Born in 1959. In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov. In 1981–1985, he was a postgraduate student at Moscow State University. From 1985 to 1987 he worked as a lecturer at the Central Lenin Museum. In 1987–1991, he was a senior researcher and curator of the scientific and storage department of the Armory Chamber of the State Museums of the Moscow Kremlin. From 1991 to 1998, he was the head of the department of weapons and horse harness of the Armory, then until 2001, he was the head of the scientific and storage department of the Armory of the Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, and from 2001 to 2010, he was the scientific director of the State cultural institutions “State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Moscow Kremlin””. Since 2010 – Director of the State Historical Museum. Candidate of Historical Sciences, member of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation. In 2010 he was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.
