Ukrainian drone “Baba Yaga” shot down in the Kupyansk direction
Military specialists of unmanned aircraft of the 6th combined arms army of the West group of forces destroyed the Ukrainian Baba Yaga drone in the Kupyansk direction at night, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
It is reported that “Baba Yaga” was first seen through night vision devices using a heat signature. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the Ukrainian drone was carrying 82mm mines and was ready to attack the Russian military, flying at low altitude, trying to hide from air defense systems.
In this situation, it was decided to “exchange” one drone for another.
“We decided that it would be an equal exchange. We rammed their drone with our reconnaissance drone. The screws stopped him. The drone of the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost directional stability and crashed into a tree,” one of the servicemen said.
The general name “Baba Yaga” refers to a type of drone for agricultural purposes that has a large payload, good navigation and autonomous movement. These are heavy industrial drones – hexocopters, converted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for combat missions. They are quite large in size, with very noisy propellers, low speed and low flight.
The Baba Yaga drone is usually equipped with several radio channels, protected from navigation interference at different frequencies. They can fly along a route in accordance with a given program without communication with the operator, that is, autonomously. Such drones are usually used for spraying fields – they have a large payload capacity, so they are capable of carrying charges weighing up to 40-50 kg.
