Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ambassador of Bangladesh

On Tuesday, February 21, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Moscow, Kamrul Ahsan, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, informed press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The reason for this is the decision of the authorities of the republic to ban Russian ships from entering their ports.
“During the conversation, we discussed the current state of Russian-Bangladeshi cooperation, a number of aspects of which are of serious concern to the Russian side. In particular, they drew the attention of the head of the diplomatic mission to information about the decision of the authorities of his country to ban entry into their ports for Russian ships carrying cargo for Bangladesh,” the message says.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that such a move does not correspond to the “character of traditionally friendly bilateral relations,” and could also negatively affect the prospects for cooperation between the countries in various fields.
Last week – February 15 – the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh confirmed TASS ban on the entry of 69 Russian ships into the ports of the country. “This step does not mean the termination of the import of goods, since only specific ships fall under the sanctions,” the diplomatic mission noted. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova on this matter declaredthat the decision to ban the entry of Russian ships into the ports of Bangladesh was made by the authorities of the republic not on their own initiative, but under the threat of secondary sanctions from the United States.
Earlier in February, Russian Ambassador to the Netherlands Alexander Shulgin declaredthat about 43,000 transit cargoes are blocked in the Dutch port of Rotterdam, which must be delivered to Russia and Belarus. Shulgin stressed that the Russian trade mission in the Netherlands organized work to “promote their [грузов] delivery to the final destination”, about a hundred cargoes have already received assistance.
