Russian Foreign Ministry accuses Ukrainian authorities of attempted assassination of Prilepin

The Ukrainian authorities are “obviously” behind the assassination attempt on writer Zakhar Prilepin, the Russian Foreign Ministry (MFA) said.
“The attack against Prilepin is yet another manifestation of that systematic approach to eliminating ideological opponents, which, through the efforts of Washington, has been actively planted in Ukraine since 2014, becoming the basic reflex of the Kiev regime,” the message says.
The ministry recalled the website “Peacemaker”, which publishes personal data of “persons seen in criticism of the Ukrainian authorities”, which are “actively used by the perpetrators of assassinations when they receive the corresponding task.”
“After the murders, the photographs of the victims of the “hit list” show “liquidation” marks. <...> Russia constantly pointed out the illegal nature of such public databases, demanded that Ukraine close them, and from the Western curators of the Kyiv authorities an adequate assessment of actions,” the ministry noted.
On the morning of May 6, Prilepin’s car was blown up in the Nizhny Novgorod region. As a result of the explosion, Prilepin’s assistant and ally, Alexander Shubin, a native of Lugansk, who previously served in the LPR, died.
After the incident, the Main Investigation Department (GSU) of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of the terrorist act (Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia took control of the course and results of the investigation of the criminal case.
Zakhar Prilepin, co-chairman of the A Just Russia – For Truth faction, went as a volunteer to the zone of a special military operation, party chairman Sergei Mironov said in January. Then he recalled that Prilepin had combat experience in the riot police. Since 2014, the co-chairman of the party has participated in hostilities as part of the DPR units, and has also delivered humanitarian aid to civilians in Donbass.
