Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived at the G20 summit meeting in Delhi, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reported on her Telegram channel.
She published a photo of Lavrov in which he was greeted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On September 8, a message from the ministry regarding Lavrov’s upcoming participation in the summit in New Delhi was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. It said that the G7 countries are putting pressure on India, wanting to reflect unilateral approaches on the situation around Ukraine in the final documents of the G20 summit. Despite this, the Foreign Ministry noted, India is trying to adhere to neutrality. In particular, New Delhi did not agree to invite Ukraine to the summit at the request of the West, the Russian department recalled.
Earlier, Vedomosti wrote that the G20 countries may not agree on the final joint document due to a number of contradictions between them, including on issues of global politics and climate. Lavrov said on September 1 that the G20 summit declaration would be approved by Russia only if it reflected its position.
The G20 meeting will be held in New Delhi on September 9-10. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Russian delegation at the event would be led by Lavrov. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin does not plan to personally attend the G20 summit and will not speak at the event via video link.
