Russian officials did not plan to participate in protocol events in connection with the death of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. This was reported on Tuesday at the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom.
The reasons were given as “the deplorable state of Russian-British bilateral relations”, as well as London’s “hostile course” towards the Russian Federation.
Earlier on Tuesday, PA reported, citing a source, that the UK government had not sent invitations to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II to representatives of Russia, Belarus and Myanmar.
They reported that about 500 high-ranking guests from all over the world would attend the farewell to the monarch on September 19. It was noted that Iran will be represented at the level of the ambassador in London.
US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill, King Philip VI of Spain and his wife Leticia, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Italian President Sergio Mattarella confirmed their participation in the funeral ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was 80 years old and she ruled Britain the longest in the history of the country – 70 years and seven months. Now the throne is occupied by the eldest son of the deceased queen – 73-year-old Charles, who took the name Charles III.
The Queen’s funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey in London. The burial place of Elizabeth II will be the George VI Memorial Chapel, which is located on the territory of St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle near London, where her father and mother are buried: George VI (1895-1952) and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (1900-2002), as well as Elizabeth’s sister Margaret (1930-2002).
The queen’s husband is temporarily buried in the royal crypt on the church grounds. With the Duke of Edinburgh Philip, Elizabeth lived together for 73 years and after her funeral, his body will be transferred to the chapel of George VI.
