Russian Consulate General opens in Phuket

The Consulate General of Russia has opened on the island of Phuket, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. She published in his Telegram channel, a video from the opening ceremony of the consulate, at which the Russian flag was raised.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Thailand the day before, on July 14. Today, Zakharova also posted footage of the meeting between the head of the Russian department and the head of the Thai Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, the ministry announced that Lavrov would visit the kingdom on July 15 and hold talks in Phuket with Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramatvinai. The parties, as noted, will exchange views on issues of bilateral relations “with an emphasis on expanding practical cooperation.” The ministers will pay attention to the prospects for building up trade, economic and investment ties, expanding cooperation in the field of culture and tourism, the Foreign Ministry reported.
“The heads of foreign affairs agencies will also discuss key international and regional issues, ways to deepen cooperation on multilateral platforms,” the message says.
Lavrov arrived in Jakarta (Indonesia) this week to take part in ASEAN events. On July 12, the Russian minister met with Wang Yi, head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Central Committee, and his counterpart from Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, Laos, Salemsay Kommasit, as well as with ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Horn.
