Russian car dealers warned of the risk of mass bankruptcy

If the Russian government does not impose a moratorium on the collection of penalties due to delayed car repairs, then the country’s car dealers and automakers will face bankruptcy. This is reported by the Association of European Businesses (AEB), writes “Kommersant“.

According to the publication, in this regard, in early September, the Ministry of Economic Development sent a proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rospotrebnadzor to postpone the application of certain provisions of the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights” for nine months, so that market participants would not face a flurry of lawsuits amid problems with spare parts.

Now dealers and car manufacturers have 45 days to carry out repairs, after which the client has the right to terminate the sales contract, replace the product or reduce the price.

At the same time, penalties in the amount of one percent of the value of the goods are charged for each day of delay.

Market participants complain that they are forced to receive spare parts through third countries, so it is often simply impossible to carry out repairs on time.
