Russian athletes will be allowed to the Asian Games in a neutral status

Up to 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to participate in a neutral status in the Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China this autumn, writes insidethegames.
According to the publication, participation in competitions in China will allow athletes to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“The governing bodies of each of the 31 sports included in the Paris 2024 program will have to decide whether they will allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in the event,” the newspaper writes.
The Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8. Russian and Belarusian athletes will compete under a neutral flag and will not qualify for medals, they will also be banned from using national symbols, the material says.
At the end of January, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in this year’s Asian Summer Games, subject to the conditions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In early June, the president of the Russian sports committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, when asked about the possibility of the participation of the Russian team in the Asian Games, said that the IOC recommendations contained “political demands that are absolutely unacceptable.”
On March 28, IOC President Thomas Bach announced that the organization supports the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in a neutral status, however, for this, athletes must condemn the hostilities in Ukraine and not be associated with the Russian and Belarusian armed forces or national security agencies. In particular, they will only be able to participate in individual sports.
In April, Pozdnyakov announced that the Russian committee would develop its own recommendations from all-Russian sports federations regarding the IOC. On May 25, he condemned the signing of political declarations by Russian athletes to participate in international competitions, and the committee promised to “restore justice.”
