Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov announced that he would soon leave his post, which he had held since 2013.
“Yes, indeed, in the near future I will leave my post, which I have already notified the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic missions of other countries in Beijing,” said Denisov RIA Novosti.
Denisov has held the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary since 2003. Prior to joining the Russian diplomatic mission in Beijing, he was Ambassador to Egypt, Permanent Representative to the UN and the UN Security Council, and First Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at a meeting with Denisov on Friday, called him “a good friend, longtime friend and true friend of the Chinese people,” the agency said. According to the Chinese minister, the ambassador has done fruitful work over the past 10 years to develop cooperation between the two countries in various fields, to strengthen friendship and mutual trust, and also made an important contribution to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of China and Russia, maintaining justice and impartiality in international arena.
As Kommersant learned in July, Denisov became one of three contenders for the position of a member of the Federation Council from the governor of the Saratov region.
