Russian President Vladimir Putin during an informal meeting with the heads of the CIS countries toldthat the Russian Federation, during its chairmanship of the organization in 2024, intends to pay close attention to deepening economic ties within the commonwealth and, in particular, to expanding settlements in national currencies.
According to him, in the past year, trade turnover between the CIS member countries “showed steady growth”, increased by 2% and amounted to $83.7 billion. “This will make it possible to more reliably ensure the economic and financial sovereignty of our states,” noted Vladimir Putin.
In addition, as the President of the Russian Federation explained, next year the CIS countries will deepen cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking. Also, the member states of the Commonwealth plan to expand humanitarian cooperation. “Close cooperation between CIS participants is still in demand. Especially in matters of combating attempts to falsify history and glorify Nazism. We should continue to hold such events as “Immortal Regiment”, “St. George’s Ribbon”, “Train of Memory”,” Mr. Putin added.
The day before, the President of the Russian Federation took part in a joint meeting with the leaders of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and announced that in 2023 the share of national currencies in mutual settlements between countries exceeded 90%.
