Russia sold a record 1.4 million tons of grain to Pakistan in 2023, according to RIA Novosti calculations based on data from the Pakistani government. The agency notes that in November, imports were paid for in UAE dirhams rather than dollars for the first time.
According to RIA Novosti, at the end of autumn, Pakistan imported 377.2 thousand tons of wheat from Russia worth 10.6 billion rubles, about 82% of which were paid in dirhams. In total, Pakistan bought 1.4 million tons of Russian grain; last year the volume of imports was 294 thousand tons. The agency notes that the last time a record value was recorded was in 2020, when imports amounted to 1.2 million tons.
In June Bloomberg wrote, that in the season, which will begin on July 1, Russia will account for every fifth batch of exported wheat. According to Bloomberg estimates based on Logistic OS data, from July 2022 to June 2023, Russia exported 1–2 million tons of grain to Algeria, Libya, Pakistan, Israel, Sudan, Bangladesh and Kenya.
In November, the authorities of the Rostov region reportedthat it came out on top in Russia in terms of gross grain harvest and doubled its agricultural exports. Bangladesh is in third place in the ranking of major importers, and Pakistan is in fourth place. 4.8 and 1.8 times more grain was shipped to these countries from the Rostov region, respectively, than during the entire last year.
