Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine

Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on June 29 on the topic of Western arms supplies to Ukraine and their impact on attempts at a diplomatic settlement of the conflict. About it informed First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.

The diplomat noted that this meeting will be a response to the traditional meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, which Western countries have requested for June 23.

“We will try to find an interesting speaker who could objectively and professionally cover this story,” Polyansky added.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Western countries began to provide financial assistance to Ukraine and supply it with military equipment and weapons. The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized such supplies. In May, it became known that the UK had handed over Storm Shadow long-range aviation cruise missiles to Ukraine.

On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with military commanders, allowed the creation of a “sanitary zone” on the territory of Ukraine in the event that shelling of the border regions of the Russian Federation continues. “If this continues, then we will apparently have to consider the issue – I say this very carefully – in order to create some kind of sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine at such a distance from which it would be impossible to get our territory,” he said.

Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov explainedthat Russia will have to move the military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a safe distance as they receive more long-range weapons.
