Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine

Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council (SC) on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine on September 12, declared Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organization.

“We requested a meeting on September 12 on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine and other factors negatively affecting the prospects for resolving the crisis in and around Ukraine,” the diplomat wrote.

Polyansky said that an open debate on Ukraine is planned for September 20. “In the course of them, as expected, many heads of delegations who are in New York at this time will speak. We will think about how and when to answer them,” he added.

At the end of July, Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the use of terrorist methods by the Ukrainian side. Polyansky stated that “the Ukrainian topic in the UN Security Council in July has not yet been exhausted” and the use of such methods by the country “is a factor aggravating the crisis around Ukraine.”

On the morning of September 6, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kyiv. As foreign media reported, he may announce financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of more than $1 billion. It is also expected that the United States will announce the supply of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov pointed outthat the West is going to continue to support Ukraine in “actually a state of war and wage this war to the last Ukrainian.”

Moscow has repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. The authorities pointed to an attempt by the West to delay the conflict by supplying weapons to Ukraine.
