Russia will not publish data on its strategic nuclear forces (SNF) even after the US State Department, which traditionally provides information on strategic offensive weapons (START), has done so. This was announced on May 16 by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov. “We read it, colleagues in other departments also looked at it. After some time, we will write it off to the archive, but now we are determined by the situation, based on completely different approaches and principles. START has been suspended,” he said.
As of March 1 this year, the US had 662 deployed launchers (intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) and heavy bombers) and 1,419 deployed nuclear warheads, according to the State Department. In addition, the United States had another 138 non-deployed carriers of strategic nuclear warheads. According to the latest data published by the Russian Foreign Ministry, as of March 1, 2021, Russia had 800 carriers and 1,456 deployed warheads.
