The monopoly operator for the export of Russian electricity, Inter RAO, reduced electricity supplies by 2.9 billion kWh in 2023, which is 27% less than a year earlier, company representative Alexandra Panina said on the sidelines of the Russia exhibition and forum. According to her, despite the general decrease in supplies, the volume of electricity exports to the East has doubled.

“Our exports amounted to about 10.7 billion kWh, last year it was about 13.6. Last year, until May inclusive, there were deliveries to the European Union countries,” said Mrs. Panina (quoted by TASS). According to her, if we exclude supplies to the European Union, then exports to eastern countries have doubled.

Alexandra Panina also noted that 2023 was not the worst year in terms of profits. “In terms of margin, this is not the worst year, if you take away recent years when there were record profits,” the Inter RAO representative emphasized. According to her, export volumes in 2024 are expected to be at the level of 2023.

According to “Kommersant” The volume of Russian electricity exports to China at the end of 2023 decreased by 34% compared to 2022. Annual exports amounted to 3.1 billion kWh, compared to a record 4.7 billion kWh in 2022. The decrease in volumes is explained by an increase in domestic consumption in the Far East, accident rates at thermal power plants and low water availability at hydroelectric power stations.
