Rosselkhoznadzor is considering the possibility of introducing a ban on the transit of poultry products from the United States through the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan, reports “RIA News” citing a source familiar with the situation.

According to the agency, the ban is planned to be introduced to protect the territory of Russia and Kazakhstan “from the introduction of highly pathogenic avian influenza.” A source in Rosselkhoznadzor noted that the epizootic situation regarding this disease in the United States is now unstable; more than 290 cases of bird flu have been registered there this year.

The last time such restrictions were introduced was in 2015. Then Rosselkhoznadzor banned the transit of poultry products and poultry meat from the United States through the Russian Federation for several months due to the spread of bird flu in the United States.
