Russia is working on the abolition of the visa regime with the countries of the Islamic world. This statement was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov at the XIV International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”.
He added that active work is being carried out in this direction. “In general, our intention is to completely abandon the regime for issuing visas, because this is very important for both tourism and business. Here, of course, the Islamic world occupies a special place – both the Arab and many African countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, – told Bogdanov. (quote from TASS).
According to him, Russia is considering the possibility of abolishing the visa regime with a number of Asian countries – Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as the Persian Gulf (Iraq, Syria, Egypt).
In February, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told, Russia has planned to agree on the introduction of a visa-free regime with 11 countries, including India. Lavrov also noted that the Foreign Ministry is also working on lifting restrictions on the issuance of electronic visas in about 70 countries, with the exception of unfriendly ones.
Currently, Russia has an agreement on a visa-free regime with the United Arab Emirates. This agreement was concluded in 2018. In March 2023, a visa-free regime for Russians introduced Mozambique. In April it became knownthat Russia is ready to liberalize the visa regime or switch to a visa-free regime with Turkmenistan, if Ashgabat wants it.
In June 2022, the Iranian Foreign Ministry declaredthat he is ready to cancel visas for Russian citizens, as a first step – for businessmen. “We have good relations on the issue of full liberalization of visas, we discussed this issue. In the Islamic Republic of Iran, we express our full readiness to announce the abolition of visas on a reciprocal basis and take the necessary steps,” Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian said at the time.
