Russia and the Central African Republic are discussing the issue of creating a Russian military base in the Central African Republic. This information was confirmed on Wednesday, January 17, at the Russian Embassy in Bangui.
The diplomatic mission referred to information provided by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the African country.
The issue of creating a military base in the Central African Republic is being discussed among the defense departments – in particular, the future location of Russian military personnel is being selected. However, the specific timing of the contingent’s arrival and its number have not yet been determined, the Russian Embassy noted.
Earlier, the director of the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Irina Abramova noted that for Russia, building relations with the African continent in a political and economic sense is extremely important. The expert explained this by saying that we are in a situation where we need to look for new partners, as a result Africa is for us “unexpectedly” became very attractive.
Following the results of the Russia-Africa summit, held in the summer of 2023 in St. Petersburg, African states received from the Russian side a range of great gifts – from free supplies of grain and debt write-off to a new helicopter in a luxury package.
