Russia intends to modernize the railway checkpoint on the border with the DPRK

In 2024, modernization of the infrastructure of the Khasan railway checkpoint (Tumangang checkpoint on the territory of the DPRK) will begin. This was stated by the deputy head of the Federal State Institution Rosgranstroy Alexander Erokhin.

As part of the modernization of the border crossing, it is planned to install new passport control booths, overpasses for the inspection of cargo transported openly, including timber, and equip it with a comprehensive security system. It is also planned to equip the entry point of the checkpoint with forced stopping means, modernize the lighting system, arrange areas and premises for storing detained goods, and supply radiometers and spectrometers for radiation monitoring. The checkpoint premises will be provided with a backup power supply system.

During the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to Russia in September 2023, a discussion took place on a project to modernize the railway from the Russian Khasan station to the North Korean port of Rajin, reported Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov.
