Russia in 2022 increased its external debt only to India – Kommersant

The only country to which Russia’s debt increased at the end of 2022 was India. This follows from World Bank data, the analysis of which led “RIA News”.
In 2022, Russia had three creditors – India, South Korea and France. The largest debt was owed to India. Over the year, it increased by a quarter, to $777 million.
It is noted that debt to other countries is decreasing. Thus, before France it decreased by 1.8 times, amounting to $177.8 million, and before South Korea it decreased by 25%, to $209.8 million.
According to statistics, approximately 21% of Russian external debt is in bonds. In 2022, this share decreased to $67.9 billion, by 32%. The majority of debt obligations – 82% – are owed to organizations not associated with the state. Over the past year, debt to institutional investors decreased by 17%, to $307 billion.
The volume of all Russian external debt in 2022 amounted to $376.1 billion, decreasing by 20%. This was a record rate of decline in external debt recorded since 2000.
December 15 World Bank published report in which the total debt of residents of foreign countries to Russia in 2022 increased by $2.3 billion, amounting to $28.9 billion (+8.7%). The largest debtors to Russia were Belarus, Bangladesh, India, Egypt and Vietnam.
