Russia confirms the fact of recession in Europe – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is noticing a recession in the European economy, but is “not happy” about it. He said this during a meeting of the Council of Heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Kyrgyzstan.
“We don’t rejoice at this, we don’t applaud, we don’t mock. No. No, but we’re just stating it,” the president said (quoted from Kremlin website).
He added that Russia’s GDP growth at the end of the year will be about 3% and this is a “good result.” According to Vladimir Putin, the oil and gas sector accounts for 3% of the country’s economic growth, and industry for 43%.
At the meeting, Mr. Putin also said that the structure of the Russian economy is changing, which the country “has not seen for a long time.” “What we previously purchased in large quantities abroad is not all, of course, it is impossible to do everything in one blow, but a lot is already beginning to be produced in the Russian Federation,” the president said.
The grain harvest in 2023, as Vladimir Putin suggested, will remain at a high level – 134-135 million tons. This, he said, means that Russia will maintain Russia’s high export potential and “satisfy the needs” of the CIS countries for grain supplies.
On October 10, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) published its autumn review of the world economy. In it, the fund noted a slowdown in global economic growth and a decline in average inflation. Russia’s GDP growth in 2023, as the IMF expects, will be 2.2%, eurozone GDP growth – 0.7%.
