Russia called Canada’s sanctions “symbolic” and promised to respond

Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov called the new sanctions imposed by Canada on Russia “meaningless and symbolic” and announced the response.
Earlier it was reported that under the pretext of a conflict in Ukraine, Ottawa imposed sanctions on 35 Russians, including members of the leadership of Gazprom. Also under the restrictions were 6 companies in the Russian energy sector.
“Another senseless, absurd anti-Russian, hostile step of the Trudeau cabinet,” Stepanov said, noting that the Canadian authorities continue to impose sanctions “in automatic mode.”
“Symbolic sanctions that cannot have any impact either on Russia or on the persons involved in these lists,” the diplomat noted.
According to him, Moscow’s response will be mandatory, and it will comply with the principle of reciprocity.
