Russia became the second largest supplier of gas to Spain

In July, Spain purchased the equivalent of 8,764 GWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, the share of Russian imports in total energy supplies amounted to 27.6%, purchases from Algeria reached 28.7% in July, according to data Spanish energy company Enagas.
In the first seven months of 2023, Madrid purchased 49,909 GWh of gas from Russia, up from 28,265 GWh last year.
At the end of June Russia took first place in terms of gas supplies to Spain, then the kingdom purchased the equivalent of 7,673 GWh of LNG from the Russian Federation, Enagas reported. According to the energy company, last year the volume of gas purchased from the Russian Federation increased by 45%, but Moscow still lags behind the United States, Algeria and Nigeria in terms of supplies.
At the end of March, the Russian embassy in Madrid reported that exports to Spain increased by 26.4% against the backdrop of increased gas supplies and amounted to 7.6 billion euros. The diplomatic mission then specified that Madrid increased the supply of Russian energy carriers by 46%, due to which Moscow took fourth place in the list of main gas suppliers (12.1% of the total).
