RusHydro plans to complete the reconstruction of Zagorskaya PSPP-2 by 2030

Energy holding RusHydro (MOEX: HYDR) expects to complete the restoration of the Zagorsk pumped storage power plant (PSPP-2) in the Moscow region by 2030. This was announced by Sergei Machekhin, Deputy General Director for Project Engineering, Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at RusHydro.
“Today we are at the stage of implementing the project to raise the Zagorskaya station. It’s too early to talk about results, but from a project point of view we are at key stages. From the point of view of the balance in the energy system, the completion of restoration work is not yet a critical element, but I think by 2030 it will be extremely important,” said Mr. Machekhin during the “Territory of Energy Dialogue” conference, answering the question about the timing of the completion of reconstruction (quote according to Prime).
Sergei Machekhin emphasized that the project to restore the Zagorskaya PSPP-2 is completely ready. Both Russian and international specialists took part in its development.
Zagorskaya PSPP-2 with a capacity of 840 MW is a pumped storage station designed for energy storage. The station was built as part of the RusHydro investment program, but in September 2013, work on the project was stopped due to subsidence of the soil under the station’s foundation. From 2008 until construction was suspended, the company managed to invest about 70 billion rubles in the project.
In December 2018, RusHydro decided to begin work on leveling the building of the Zagorskaya PSPP-2. The company then noted that they could take several years and are estimated at 3.15 billion rubles.
