RTVI: Estonian border guards began to warn about the imminent closure of the border with the Russian Federation

Estonian border guards began distributing leaflets to Russian citizens warning that the Russian-Estonian border could soon be closed. RTVI reported this on Tuesday, February 13, with reference to the relevant leaflets.

The official website of the Estonian Police Department notes that “in recent weeks, Russia has deliberately sent groups of foreigners who do not have the legal right to enter the European Union to the Estonian border.”

If “this activity” continues, the department threatens to close border checkpoints “in order to protect national security and public order.”

Estonia, like Lithuania and Latvia, decided to start building bunkers on the border with Russia. According to the defense ministers of the Baltic states, about six hundred such structures need to be built in total. However, analysts believe that this figure should be about six times higher.

Meanwhile, the Finnish Ministry of the Interior decided to renew closure of checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation at least until April 14. Helsinki explained this by the influx of illegal immigrants across the Russian border and accused Russian border guards of dishonestly fulfilling their duties in combating illegal migration.
