Rostec received a registration certificate for the LIFE STREAM ECMO emergency circulatory recovery device. It is supposed to help save the lives of patients with sudden cardiac arrest and acute respiratory failure.

The development was carried out by NPO Splav named after A. N. Ganichev (part of Rostec). According to the state corporation, the device “is in no way inferior to foreign analogues and, at the same time, they are 30-40% cheaper.” Its mass production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2023, according to press release on the Rostec website.

According to the company, with the help of an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine, artificial circulation is maintained in the body in case of sudden cardiac arrest, and blood is also saturated with oxygen in case of acute respiratory failure. This should help save the lives of victims of road accidents, fires, and natural disasters.

“Previously, such equipment was supplied to Russia from abroad. Now we are doing everything so that the domestic healthcare system is not left without the necessary equipment. The domestic ECMO device developed at Splav has successfully passed the tests and received a registration certificate, that is, it is ready for deliveries … Within three years we will be able to cover the demand for such equipment within the country,” said Oleg Yevtushenko, executive director of Rostec.
