The decline of the Russian economy in the II quarter, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to 4%, informed Rosstat today.
“The index of the physical volume of gross domestic product in the second quarter of 2022 relative to the corresponding period in 2021, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to 96.0%,” the report says.
The department’s preliminary assessment for the second quarter is based on operational statistical reporting of large and medium-sized enterprises in the non-financial sector of the economy. According to the agency, during the reporting period, wholesale trade in the country decreased by 15.3%, retail – by 9.8%, water supply and waste disposal – by 8.9%, passenger traffic – by 5.3%, manufacturing – by 3%. .3%, and cargo turnover – by 2.9%.
The publication of the first assessment of the second quarter is scheduled for September 9, the department stressed.
At the end of July, the Ministry of Economic Development estimated the decline in Russia’s GDP in the II quarter by 4%, and for the first half of the year – by 0.5% compared to the same period last year. After that, the head of the Ministry of Economics Maxim Reshetnikov declaredthat the situation in the Russian economy as a whole is developing better than it was predicted in the spring. According to him, agriculture continued to grow in June, the indicators of the extractive industry also improved, which largely stabilized the dynamics in June and prevented the predicted decline.
