Rosrybolovstvo submitted to the government a proposal to ban the import of fish products from the Faroe Islands (autonomous territory of Denmark), reported on the department’s website.
This step is proposed as a response to the restrictions imposed on Russian fishermen. Mainly herring, mackerel and capelin are imported from the Faroe Islands, and in 2018-2022. its volume decreased from 144,100 tons to 71,500 tons.
“The proposed measure will not have a negative impact on the country’s food security, since Russian fishing companies produce and deliver these types of fish to the Russian coast and produce products from them,” the department believes.
Imports from the Faroe Islands can be replaced through the redistribution of part of Russian exports to supplies to the domestic market, Rosrybolovstvo added.
In early June, it became known that the Faroe Islands intend to limit access to its ports for Russian ships. How noted “Danish Radio”, it was planned to limit the volume of fish transshipment in local ports by 75%, as well as prohibit the provision of repair services to ships from the Russian Federation.
