The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that there have been almost no cases of cholera in Russia for several years, but the risk “is always there.”
“A large number of countries in the world, unfortunately, are affected by cholera, and today there are risks in all countries of the world, because any tourist can get an infection by plane,” Popova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to her, Rospotrebnadzor is doing everything possible to prevent the infection from entering the country.
June 1 World Health Organization (WHO) published cholera incidence statistics. Twenty-four countries have reported outbreaks of the disease since the beginning of the year, nine more than during the same period last year. According to the organization, the risk of further spread of cholera in the world remains very high.
