Rosobrnadzor terminated the license of the Anglo-American School in Moscow

The license of the Anglo-American School (AAS; recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) for educational activities has been terminated. This should from the register of Rosobrnadzor.

It follows from the school card that the Moscow Department of Education and Science issued AAS a perpetual license in May 2021. By order of July 12, 2023, the license was terminated.

On May 12, 2023, AAS announced its closure, indicating “that it has been an integral part of the Moscow international educational community for more than seven decades.” June 30 Ministry of Justice of Russia introduced entry into the register of foreign agents.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller condemned the decision of the Russian authorities and said that the inclusion of the school in the register of foreign agents “was the latest in a series of actions by the Russian government that forced the closure of the Anglo-American School.” In response to this, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova statedthat the school was engaged in the promotion of non-traditional relationships, including among minor Russians, and she herself decided to close the educational institution instead of eliminating the offenses.

In February, the prosecutor’s office conducted an inspection of the school, after which its activities were suspended for 90 days. Such a decision delivered Tushinsky District Court of Moscow April 2. The organization was found guilty of violating the requirements for conducting general educational activities in Russia.

The “Anglo-American School” of Moscow was founded in 1949. It offered an international educational program from preschool age (four years) to 12th grade. About 1200 people studied at the school, including children of diplomats from the USA, Great Britain and Canada.
