The rotation of specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporozhye NPP took place on the fourth attempt, said Renat Karchaa, adviser to the head of the Rosenergoatom concern. The pretexts under which the procedure could not be carried out earlier, Mr. Karchaa called “delusional”.
“The rotation of IAEA inspectors took place as usual, the convoy is moving. They are already at the entrance to Vasilyevka,” said Mr. Karchaa.
The IAEA should change its special representatives at the Zaporozhye NPP once a month. The last rotation was postponed three times: the procedure was scheduled for February 7, 10 and 18. All three times the UN Security Department insisted on the cancellation, while the Russian side provided all security guarantees, Mr. Karchaa said earlier.
Decree on the transfer of the Zaporizhzhya NPP under Russian jurisdiction, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed in October 2022. The IAEA deployed four expert inspectors to the facilities. Head of the agency Rafael Grossi announced creation of a security zone around the station. In March 2023, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov declaredthat consultations on this issue are stalling.
