Rosenergoatom plans to provide Zaporozhye NPP with water from wells

Water for the needs of the Zaporozhye NPP will be received from artesian wells. Renat Karchaa, adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern, stated this on air on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

According to him, the water can come in the near future. “Work has already been organized to obtain water from the so-called artesian wells, the result will be very soon, we will get such an additional source of water supply,” declared he (quote from RIA Novosti).

He also noted that a mobile pumping station is coming from the Smolensk nuclear power plant, with the help of which water will be pumped out and another source of replenishment will be received.

On the night of June 6, about 150 km from the ZNPP, the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP was destroyed. As a result, an uncontrolled discharge of water began. After the incident, the level of the Kakhovka reservoir is rapidly falling, but the nuclear power plant reported over the weekend that it was stable for about a day. According to data obtained by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the ZNPP site, by the morning of June 11, the water level at the Zaporizhzhya TPP was estimated at 11.27 m compared to almost 17 m before the dam burst.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi warned that in the medium term, the station could be left without water for cooling, which would damage the reactors. June 12 he left to Ukraine, where he plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, visit the Zaporizhzhya NPP, and also present a program of assistance in eliminating the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam.

Formerly Karchaa informedthat the number of IAEA inspectors at ZNPP will be increased several times. Grossi himself spoke about the intention to strengthen the presence of the agency at the facility.
