Rosatom intends to sign a contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan this year

“Rosatom» expects the signing of a contract for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan this year. About it declared director for capital investments and state construction supervision of the state corporation Gennady Sakharov in a commentary to TASS.

“We are planning [в Узбекистане] the signing of a large contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant this year. We are going there for the first time,” he said.

According to him, the state corporation plans to build two units with a capacity of 1200 MW.

Russia and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant on the territory of Uzbekistan in the fall of 2018. As noted then, “Rosatom» plans to build a complex of two generation III+ power units with VVER-1200 reactor units. In June last year, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Sherzod Khodjaev saidthat the republic is discussing with Russia the optimization of the cost of building a nuclear power plant. The project, as he then put it, “loses very much to other types of generation.”

Early May in Egypt began construction with the participation of Russia of power unit No. 3 of the country’s first nuclear power plant “El-Dabaa”. The station will consist of four power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each with reactors of the VVER-1200 type (pressure-cooled power reactor) of generation III+.

On February 6, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said that the state corporation was close to concluding agreements on the construction of nuclear power plants with 3-4 new countries. On the same day, the press service of Rosatom reported that Russia and Myanmar had signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful atom. Also in February, the press service of Rosatom reported that the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary with the participation of the Russian side would begin in 2024.

Later, at the end of April, Russia and Turkey officially formalized the delivery of nuclear fuel to power unit No. 1 of the Akkuyu NPP. Rosatom handed over a certificate to the Turkish Ministry of Energy, permission for this was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey.
