Rosatom denies stopping uranium exports to the United States

“Rosatom“did not stop the export of uranium to the United States, a representative of the state corporation told Vedomosti.

Earlier in the Telegram channel “Country Rosatom“information has appeared about the alleged stoppage of uranium supplies from St. Petersburg to the United States due to lack of insurance coverage. The channel later deleted the message.

The uranium market declined for 10 years after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan in 2011. The disaster led to the closure of dozens of nuclear reactors around the world. Nuclear energy commodity prices collapsed, and mining companies cut back on uranium production. In recent years, the cost of natural uranium has begun to rise – in three years it has more than doubled in price.

How wrote “Vedomosti”, the world nuclear power plant demand for uranium in 2023 is estimated by the World Nuclear Association (WNA) at approximately 65,650 tons. In the base scenario, they will exceed 83,840 tons in 2030 and reach almost 130,000 tons in 2040. Demand for nuclear fuel, the review says, will also spur the world’s development of small modular reactors. They are being developed by companies in the USA and China, and Rosatom also has such technologies.
