Rosatom and Mosgortrans signed a contract for the supply of batteries from the gigafactory

The company is an integrator of Rosatom in the field of electricity storage systems, Renera LLC (part of the Rosatom Fuel Company “TVEL“) and Mosgortrans entered into the first contract in Russia for the supply of traction batteries for electric vehicles, which provides for investment obligations to create production of these products.

As part of the contract, State Unitary Enterprise Mosgortrans is guaranteed to purchase more than 155,000 traction batteries produced by Rosatom for electric vehicles. In its turn, “Rosatom» undertakes obligations to create a production of energy storage devices in Moscow and deliver the products produced there in accordance with the contracted volume.

The start of construction of the new plant was given by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and First Deputy General Director of Rosatom Alexander Lokshin. The future production will be located in the Krasnaya Pakhra settlement on the territory of the Troitsky administrative district of Moscow.

The capacity of the new Rosatom enterprise will be 4 GWh per year (total capacity of manufactured devices). The “Gigafactory” will be located on a site with an area of ​​20.4 hectares and will be equipped with modern technological equipment that provides a full cycle of battery production – from the lithium-ion cell to the subsequent assembly of traction batteries and stationary electricity storage systems.

Technologies used in design and production will ensure high performance properties of traction batteries. The production automation level will be 90%. Most technological processes will be carried out on robotic lines with a total length of 2.5 km. The enterprise will provide new jobs for 870 people. The production site will comply with all environmental standards.

According to the contract, “Rosatom» will supply traction batteries for more than 5,000 electric buses in Moscow. This is the largest contract in Europe for the supply of traction batteries for urban electric transport, the company claims. In addition, it is planned to equip 150,000 Moskvich electric vehicles with modern batteries from the new production. The contract also includes the development of electric batteries for river transport, tram cars and personal mobility equipment.

Vedomosti wrote about plans to build Rosatom’s second “gigafactory” in New Moscow on August 15 following a meeting between the general director of the state corporation Alexei Likhachev and Russian President Vladimir Putin. A Rosatom representative then clarified that an agreement with Moscow would be signed “in the near future.”
