Ukraine, by its actions, is trying to flood the left-bank part of the Zaporozhye region so that its armed forces can cross the Dnieper and capture the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. About this “RIA Novosti” declared Vladimir Rogov, member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region.
“They use this situation as a military component to prepare for the crossing of the Dnieper, including the capture of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The Kiev regime is deliberately seeking flooding of the left-bank part of the Zaporozhye region, which is located below the right bank,” he explained.
Formerly Rogov informed that the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir has already reached a critical level, after the winter the water rose by 17 m. According to him, this was caused by uncontrolled discharge of water from HPPs, which are under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine upstream, and floods.
In the area of the Kakhovka reservoir there are several settlements – Kamenka-Dneprovskaya and Velikaya Znamenka, which are protected from flooding by a dam. According to Rogov, the water is now putting a lot of pressure on it, at any moment it can be broken through. As a result, these settlements may be flooded.
The Zaporozhye NPP may also be in the flood zone, Renat Karchaa, adviser to the general director of the Rosenergoatom concern, warned. “The power cable lines of the spray pools and pumping units will be flooded at the station. This [создаст] functional problems for plant operation and nuclear safety risks,” he said (cit. according to TASS).
Russia has controlled the ZNPP since the end of February 2022. Since then, the plant and the city of Energodar, in which it is located, have been subjected to regular shelling by Ukraine. In early October, after the Zaporozhye region became part of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to take the plant facilities into federal ownership and create the Zaporozhye NPP FSUE to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities.
